roDUMP is a small MIDI sample-dump utility created by AlcoRhythm of The Problem. It is used to send and receive MIDI Sample Dump Standard data from samplers. It can convert samples from 8...28 bits samplers to 8, 16, 24 or 32 bit data, meaning you can also play back the samples with the Amiga and use the samples in programs like ProTracker/OctaMED (8 bit), or DigiTracker/FastTracker (16 bit if you have a PC). Converting samples from a 'real' 16 bit sampler to 8 bit for use in ProTracker often gives a better sound quality than using an Amiga sampler. This is actually the main reason for me to write the program. The other reason is that I am currently trying to get to know as much as I can about MIDI, for our other (BIG) project... ProSEQ.

Raw sample data (8, 16, 24 or 32 bit) can also be loaded into the program (and converted to any bitresolution between 8 and 28 bit. This way you could for example send 8 bit data sampled with an Amiga sampler to a 16 bit sampler. As an extra there are also some simple editing functions, because some operations, like maximising the volume or downsampling, can better be done on the original data than on the converted samples.

ProDUMP comes with a manual in AmigaGuide format. To use ProDUMP, you need:

  • An Amiga (the more memory, the bigger the samples can be...)
  • A MIDI interface connected to the serial port!
  • A sampler that can send and/or receive sample dumps via MIDI.
(These items are NOT included in the release!)

While a sample is being received or loaded in ProDUMP, a graphic is drawn to show progress...

Samples can be saved out as raw 8, 16, 24 or 32 bit data, or as a complete dump file (8 to 28 bits)...

ProDUMP is FREE to download at the Transfer Station.
